The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Geriatrics fellowship was accredited in 1990 and focuses on preparing the next generation of geriatricians in academic and clinical venues. The fellowship is designed to emphasize the comprehensive evaluation and management of older adults, the vital role in patient safety and quality improvement necessary to the current changes in our health care system. Major focus in safe transitions of care in older adults as well as an excellent training in the care of the needs of older adults in ambulatory settings including Geriatric evaluation and management clinic at the VA, ambulatory geriatric clinic in the community, cutting edge memory clinic, inpatient services (consult palliative care service and ACE unit(Acute Care of Elderly unit) and long term care. Our combine training with fellows from Palliative care and inter-professional palliative care team make this fellowship vey unique and strong. The program also takes advantage of the vast array of in-depth expertise and rich resources of the university setting and the GRECC for intensive, focused experiences in aging and research. The program is fully accredited by the ACGME and offers 5 positions per year.
